For the third year, I am delighted to post Statista’s annual list of the largest risks facing the world. This compendium is based on a survey of more than 900 experts drawn from business, government, and academia. As you will note, risks are divided into two categories: short term (2 years) and long term (10 years).
Please feel free to make your own judgement, but several of the rankings are surprising to me. For example, why is cyber insecurity near the bottom of the ten-year time horizon? I serve on two corporate boards and that topic holds an important spot on every board meeting agenda. Looking at the ten-year time frame, why are the top three spots focused on ecological and climate issues while pollution is at the bottom? Finally, why does societal polarization risk diminish as the time frame is stretched from two to ten years? Whether you agree with the rankings or not, reviewing the list is a very thought-provoking exercise.
